Gotta Love Vinegar!

So, growing up I remember my Mom using white vinegar for a myraid of uses... the windows, boiled eggs, etc.  But I guess I don't remember her using it in the dishwasher.  The dishwasher that came with the house, while low-end, seemed to look okay.  We loaded up the dishwasher after having 9 people over for lasagne dinner... started it up when we headed off to bed.  In the morning... (eeek!!!)  The dishes looked worse than when they went in.  So, in taking advantage of the home warranty we have, we called for service thinking there was something major that needed repair.  $100 later and a $2 bottle of white vinegar... we were giving our dishwasher a vinegar bath!!  Other things we learned from the repair guys... don't use liquid soap if you do not have a water softner for your home.  Gels/Liguid detergents build up film quickly - sort of like soap scum in your shower.  If you use white vinegar regularly in your dishwasher you will not only help keep things running well for a very long time, but you will not get the stinky smell that sometimes evolves after extended use and you also will not get the white streaks and spots that are left behind (even with using JetDry).  So, make the $2 investment for the large gallon of white vinegar and have cleaner dishes.  :-)
